The Delivery of a National Freight and Supply Chain Strategy seeks to strengthen the road networks to improve transport conditions to improve freight transportation. The amount of Freight on Australia’s roads is expected to increase by 80% in 2030 therefore increasing efficiencies in Australia’s transport network is vital with huge economic benefits as every 1% increase in supply chain efficiency GDP is boosted by $2 billion. The following session focuses on the strategy and key outcomes sought by the Freight and Logistics industry:
- How the National Freight and Supply Chain Strategy will drive reform to achieve strategic objectives
- Improving data and technology to improve supply chain viability
- Preservation of freight transport corridors to protect from urban encroachment
- Considerations for freight to be given a higher priority in planning policy.

10:30 am - 11:10 am Scenario Planning: Understanding Future Usage of Roads based on the Shared Services Economy
This session will discuss how emerging technologies will change long-term transport strategies and investment requirements for state governments. This is outlined in the session through the development of future scenario planning of shared services transportation and autonomous vehicle usage and incorporating these findings into current five year plans infrastructure plans.
- How to set up a clear vision of what your future transport system will look like in the future.
- Scenario planning for utilising different emerging trends and technologies – shared services economy, autonomous vehicles and how it affects road congestion
- Research modelling and analysis – Mobility as a service, current ownership rates, autonomous vehicle
- Demographics and perceptions to travel of different age groups

- The entire audience will break up and choose IDGs based on which topics are most relevant and interesting to them.
- Each IDG is set in a roundtable format and will be facilitated by a thought leader in the space
- Each delegate will have the opportunity to select 2 topics and will rotate between their choices every 30 minutes.
- Discussion groups are kept small to ensure all delegates get the opportunity to ask their most pressing questions, ensuring a perfectly tailored experience.

2:00 pm - 2:40 pm Cost and Causes: Changing the Way We Think about Congestion
The following presentation focuses on the need to better understand congestion, including the causes of congestion to help solve the problem. Queensland Transport and Main Roads has developed methodologies to determine the cost and causes of congestion in Southeast Queensland and provides insights to be used in decision-making across the department. With key learning outcomes for this session including how to:
· Better understand congestion through analysing and interpreting available data
· Calculating the cost of excessive congestion on the road network using on-road measurements
· Multi-variable analysis to isolate the causes of congestion, for example congestion due to incidents and weather
· Incorporating emerging data sources and moving towards predictive analytics
2:40 pm - 3:20 pm Catering to Future Growth: Minimising Train Delays Through Sydney’s $276 million State-of-the-Art Rail Operations Centre
In 2018, the Rail Operations Centre will merge five control centres that manage trains, disruptions, tracks, security and customer communication into one leading to increased reliability and information relayed to customers to communicate more effectively. This will lead to an increase in efficiencies with Sydney trains with the focus of this session on:
- How to optimising Sydney’s Trains transportation system for future growth
- Current update on the Rail Operations Centre and amalgamating different systems from the original five operation centres to increase efficiencies
- Introducing new technologies to increase productivity and reduce travel times
3:20 pm - 4:00 pm Providing Transportation Options for Large Scale Events to Reduce Travel Times for Spectators
Traffic authorities need to be able to accommodate for both the congregation and exodus of fans from a venue. In order for this to occur, large event holders must work in conjunction with transportation bodies to accurately predict the amount of people needing their services. Communication therefore is an essential component in order to develop travel options for these events with this session’s focus on:
- Developing and understanding the necessary network shutdown strategies to limit the impact on fans
- Creating clear communication channels between the venues and transportation providers
- Promoting and educating the community on the facilities and options available
